What lies beyond WoW? Part IV: Lost

I found myself yearning to play a new Mass Multiplayer Online RPG (MMORPG), so I discovered Rose Online. It’s actually a very beautiful game. At the time I was playing it, it was still in beta. I really can’t have a fair opinion on it since the game wasn’t fully completed at the time. The battle system seemed fair enough. Quests were somewhat repetitive. Being in beta, there weren’t to many quests available. I swear I did about ten then that was it. When the beta period was over, I never bothered continuing. By now it’s probably a decent game. I began searching the net for free MMORPG games.

I next came across Anarchy Online. I’m sure at the time of it’s release it may have been considered good. The game seemed very primitive compared to the current generations of online games. The interface and the overall game play was very confusing. I still don’t not sure if I like it or not cause I couldn’t figure much out. If anything it was one of the most confusing MMORPG games i’ve played.

I continued my search online till I came across another beautiful online game. To my surprise this game was also free…, Maple Story. This is probably the best 2D MMORPG out. This game was also released on the DS in Korea. The game utilizes something that isconsidered a taboo for most online games;Real Money Transactions. Yes, the game is free, but if you want cool gear you buy it with real money. I really didn’t want to find myself putting dollar after dollar into a game I’d end up being obsessed with, so I eventually stopped playing it as well.

What was I to do? I really wanted to play an online RPG game. What was left? Should I play World of Warcraft? I swore I’d never play another fantasy online game. How much longer can I resist it? Haunting memories of Final Fantasy Online made me shudder at the site of any fantasy game.

To Be Continued…(with the inevitable conclusion)
